Nottingham Science City

In 2005, the UK government designated Nottingham a Science City - one of only six such destinations awarded across the country.

Nottingham’s Science City status is in recognition of its track record in pioneering research and scientific achievements but also recognises the city’s present strengths and future potential to become an international location for scientific excellence.

That track record includes being home to the largest health and beauty retailer, Alliance Boots and the birthplace of a wide range of household products including Ibuprofen and the Video Recorder. Technological advances including the first vertical take-off and landing by an aircraft and the development of the MRI scanner by Sir Peter Mansfield, who won the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Paul C. Lauterbur. And not forgetting the home to HP Sauce!
